LONDON HANDBALL CUP 2011 - OLYMPIC PARK

Poland Vs Austria, Handball Arena, Olympic Park, London

With the London 2012 Olympics fast approaching, it’s time to begin the testing programme for next year’s fundamentals.  The London Prepares series is the official London 2012 sports testing programme.  Featuring an extensive range of world-class sporting events at both Olympic and Paralympic venues, top Athletes will participate in events enabling the London 2012 Organising Committee to test aspects of its operations from equipment and timing to work force and officiating.

As an Ambassador of Sport, Sira Concepts was invited to the Handball Arena at the Olympic Park to watch the finals of the Handball Cup - Poland Vs Austria.  Overall six teams participated in the Handball Event that took place between 23rd – 27th November 2011.

The Handball Arena has a maximum capacity of 7,000 and will host both women’s and men’s competitions next year.  The 3.000 sq m of copper cladding gives the Arena its distinguishing appearance and will remain a permanent venue thereafter.  Housing 88 light pipes, the Arena will allow natural sunlight to replace venue lighting.

With a final score of  23 – 22, Austria secured the gold medal with just a difference of one goal.  Poland takes silver and China bronze.  The test event definitely gives you a taster of what’s to come next year….
