VISA INTERNATIONAL INVITATIONAL HOCKEY 2012 - OLYMPIC PARK

2 – 6 May 2012, Riverbank Arena, Olympic Park, London

Part of the London Prepares Series, the tournament will assist the London 2012 Organising Committee to test procedures ahead of the London Games.

As an Ambassador of Sport, Sira Concepts was invited to the Riverbank Arena at the Olympic Park to watch the Tournament.  Overall eight teams participated in the Hockey Tournament that took place from 2nd – 6th May 2012. The event featured current world champions including Australia and Germany (men’s), who are currently ranked the top two in the world.

This has to be the most beautiful Hockey pitch ever. The Riverbank Arena consists of two artificial turf water-based pitches. The London Blue and London Pink provide a great contrast and make it easier to spot the yellow ball making these the first pitches that aren’t traditionally green. It has a maximum capacity of 15,000 and 5,000 and will host both women’s and men’s Olympic Hockey competitions this year.  During the games it will also be used for the Paralympics 5-a-side and 7-a-side Football.

The Great Britain women’s team secured the gold medal, as did the men’s German team.  The atmosphere at the test event was phenomenal offering us a taster of what’s to come…
