What’s
in Vogue and why does it matter?
Three
amazing people with diverse backgrounds came together at Tomax Talks to discuss
Fashion & Fantasy. Tomax Talks revives the art of story telling by
combining facts with fun. The clever juxtaposition of speakers provides
interesting topics for open discussion. Alexandra Shulman, Vogue UK Editor was
joined by Jas Sehmbi, Founder of Jas M.B. and Tessa Edwards, Futuristic
Designer.
The
evening began with Jas Sehmbi talking about his journey. With plenty of passion
and penniless, he borrowed £500 of a friend to start his business. Not knowing
how and whether it was going to work, he took the plunge. Within the next six
months, Jas produced 30,000 bags from his house. Back in 1993, Music was a huge
influence to Jas. He came up with the idea of combining fashion and music to
create the original DJ bag. Today Jas has his own brand of luxury leather goods
selling in over 500 outlets across the globe.
Alexandra
Shulman took the stage and spoke about her experience over the past twenty
years as editor for Vogue UK. From front covers to model sizes, she answered
all questions openly and honestly. “Our most successful cover was the
millennium issue – which didn’t have anyone on it, but acted like a mirroe so
you could see you own reflection!” Editor and now author, Alexandra also
mentions her novel ‘Can we still be friends?’
A
slightly confusing video was projected onto a wall that was produced by Tessa,
right up until she arrived at the venue. Tessa Edwards, a futuristic designer
went on to explain the clip and her theory of fashion. She spoke about how she
manipulates the typical fashion identity to express herself. This was
demonstrated through her short film.
Fashion
in three very distinctive modes. A truly amazing an inspirational evening out
together by Tom and Max. A great opportunity to inspire many…
